Cold North Open 2025 is approaching! It will be held once again in Ropecon, in the Helsinki Messukeskus on 25.-27.7.2025.
Pre-registration for the competition is open in Pienoismallit.net (https://pienoismallit.net/tapahtumat/2025/ropecon-maalauskisa-cold-north-open/ilmoittaudu/en). We wish for all the entries to be pre-registered if at all possible. We will also have the option to register on site, but please prepare for longer queues if you have not pre-registered. If you’re not ready about your entry being ready we recommend pre-registering it anyway and then getting rid of the extra entry forms if you don’t finish it. By registering an entry you acknowledge, that photos of the entry can be used by Ropecon and Cold Tones Society on their platforms (eg. websites, social media).
Cold North Open is a multi-day competition, and a Ropecon ticket is needed for entry. There is no separate fee for the painting competition.
The competition is organized by actives of the Finnish painting collective Cold Tones Society in co-operation with Ropecon ry for the fourth year in a row. During these years the competition has evolved and grown a lot, and once again we hope to see a lot of entries from contestants of various skill levels. There is a separate Beginner -category for people new to figure painting competitions, which is a great way to test the waters.
As a new category we are introducing the Sculpt -category for unpainted works sculpted by the entrant. More info on this and the other returning categories is coming once we get the ruleset and categories published on the Ropecon website. All of the categories from 2024 are making a return without major changes, so you can safely start working on your entries already.
As in the past years, the competition is judged by a panel of judges with awards from various national and international painting competitions. In addition to the judged awards a People’s Choice award is given to one entry that gets the most votes from the convention audience.
